Our Ethiopia Business is seeking a HSE Manager to join our team in Addis Ababa, reporting to the Europe & Africa HSE Director. In this role, you will be responsible for partnering with the business to assist in implementing and mentoring the business operations to succeed in implementing a healthy, safety, environmental and wellbeing culture, that thrives organically within the business.   The role will work most effectively with site managers, supervisors, and employees with occasion working with senior executive management within the country.

This role requires the candidate to implement/maintain/monitor/train and advise on a pre-defined Global HSE management system and all the process at site level and ensure senior management understand their ownership to HSE matters. In this position, you will:

 

  • Ensure high degree of knowledge with the workings and functionality of the global HSE system to support business ownership.
  • Support the business in understanding and liaising with senior management to ensure how to meet all HSE KPIs
  • Be involved and support the business with incident investigations, educate on identifying permanent corrective actions to prevent repeat events.  Support the development of driving market wide changes to known events.
  • Proactively drive and support the integration of Country based Risk Management Programs including cultural and wellbeing programs.  Work with the Head of HSE Europe & Africa to ensure the market achieves HSE compliance in line with the Group/Regional and Country HSE strategic plan.
  • Work under the direction of the HSE Management department.
  • Locally support and manage injury management programs for the return to work of injured employees.
  • Be involved with the business monthly operational management meetings and present and communicate the monthly HSE sites’ performance in line with regional and country HSE reporting.
  • Responsible for the on-time integration and implementation of any HSE training program released to the business, ensuring verification process of completion is carried out by the business for reporting matters.

About You

To be successful in this role, you would need:

  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience.
  • Professional in careers of industrial, mechanical or environmental engineering, occupational health and safety degree.
  • Prior proven HSE and facilities management experience in complex manufacturing, industrial, service etc. organization(s)
  • Experienced in scenario planning, security plan development, crisis/contingency planning and other security related functions
  • Experienced in contract administration, contract management, project management, asset integrity management and HSE management
  • HSE Certification from an accredited body, NEBOSH, ISO 45001, ISO 14001 is required
  • Lead Auditors’ qualifications in OHS or Environmental management is desirable.
  • Ability to act appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Strong collaborator and mobilizer.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, analytical and numerical skills.
  • Passionate about process improvement and attention to detail.
  • Able to work under pressure to complete tasks on time and in line with overall planning processes.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
