Job Summary:

The General Ledger (GL) Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the company’s general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with company policies and accounting standards. This role involves performing journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end and year-end closing processes, and supporting financial reporting and analysis in a global business environment. The GL Accountant also supports the Finance Controller by contributing to financial reporting, variance analysis, and other ad hoc reporting activities required for effective financial oversight and decision-making.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Post journal entries for routine and non-routine transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting policies in accordance with assigned accounts from the chart of accounts.
  • Maintain and ensure accurate financial records in alignment with global accounting practices.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts. Investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure all reconciling items are appropriately documented and cleared within specified timeframes.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Ensure that all required journal entries, adjustments, and accruals are recorded accurately and on time.
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial controls, company policies, and regulatory requirements (e.g., IFRS, GAAP).
  • Support audits (internal and external) by providing necessary documentation, schedules, and explanations.
  • Manage the preparation of internal and external financial reports, ensuring that reports are both timely and accurate.
  • Support the Finance Controller with financial reporting tasks, including preparation of variance analyses, forecast comparisons, and management reports.
  • Assist in compiling data and explanations for periodic business reviews, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
  • Participate in the creation and refinement of reporting templates and tools used by the Finance Controller.
  • Identify opportunities for process efficiencies in the general ledger function, including automation and optimization of workflows.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to streamline month-end closing and reporting processes.
  • Work closely with other finance teams (accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, etc.) to ensure accurate and complete financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with regional and global finance teams to ensure consistency and accuracy of financial data across different entities and business units.
