The Used Car Sales Manager is responsible for leading all used vehicle sales operations, driving sales volume, profitability, inventory performance, and market share while delivering an exceptional customer experience. This role oversees the full used vehicle lifecycle, including inventory acquisition, pricing, merchandising, reconditioning, aging inventory management, sales team performance, and departmental profitability.
The Used Car Sales Manager works closely with Sales, PDO, Aftersales, Finance, and other business partners to ensure used vehicle inventory is effectively sourced, prepared, marketed, and sold while maintaining operational efficiency and achieving business objectives.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Sales & Inventory Management
- Establish and implement sales objectives and strategies to achieve targeted used vehicle sales volume, gross profit, and departmental profitability.
- Review sales performance, inventory levels, forecasts, and opportunities with senior management on a regular basis.
- Monitor inventory aging, turn rates, pricing, market competitiveness, and overall inventory health.
- Oversee the acquisition and disposition of used vehicles through trade-ins, purchases, repossessions, wholesale channels, and other approved sources.
- Evaluate and appraise vehicles based on market demand, vehicle condition, and current market trends.
- Develop and maintain competitive retail pricing strategies for used vehicle inventory.
- Identify aging or underperforming inventory and implement pricing, marketing, wholesale, or disposition strategies.
- Coordinate vehicle inspections, reconditioning, detailing, and readiness activities with Service, Body Shop, and PDO teams.
- Ensure inventory is accurately represented and effectively merchandised across dealership locations, websites, and digital marketplaces.
- Implement targeted marketing campaigns and sales initiatives to maximize inventory performance.
- Monitor salesperson productivity and sales activities, providing coaching and direction to improve performance.
- Analyze financial performance, control expenses, and manage departmental budgets.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with lenders, auction partners, vendors, and other key business partners.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, train, coach, mentor, and retain high-performing sales team members.
- Establish clear expectations and performance standards for sales activities, customer follow-up, productivity, and results.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and customer-focused team culture.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions, and development discussions.
- Address employee relations matters promptly and professionally, including performance management and disciplinary actions.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement across the department.
Customer Experience
- Deliver exceptional customer experiences throughout the sales process.
- Ensure customers receive accurate and transparent information regarding vehicle condition, pricing, financing, warranties, and related products.
- Resolve customer concerns and complaints professionally and effectively.
- Ensure dealership facilities, inventory displays, and digital sales channels maintain high presentation standards.
- Support initiatives that improve customer satisfaction, retention, and referral business.
Reporting & Performance Management
- Prepare and review reports related to sales performance, inventory aging, inventory turn, gross profit, expenses, and key operational metrics.
- Monitor inventory and sales trends to identify risks and growth opportunities.
- Utilize data and analytics to improve sales performance, inventory management, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with company policies and operational procedures.
- Provide recommendations and action plans to improve departmental performance and business outcomes.
ABOUT YOU
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of automotive sales and management experience.
- Proven leadership experience with a track record of developing high-performing sales teams.
- Strong understanding of used vehicle operations, inventory management, pricing strategies, and vehicle appraisal processes.
- Excellent communication, coaching, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, financial, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with dealership management systems, CRM platforms, inventory management tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Customer-focused with the ability to balance profitability and customer satisfaction.
- Valid Guam Driver's License.
- Automotive sales management certifications or manufacturer training are an advantage.
