SUMMARY
|
The Diesel Mechanic performs diagnoses, repair, and modification work on diesel and gas-powered construction equipment, heavy and light trucks, automobiles, and performs other duties as required. Work may be completed in the workshop or at the customer’s work site, as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
|
- Workshop and on-site diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of pickup trucks, automobiles, dump trucks, tractors, motor graders, cranes, generators, material lifts, forklifts, and other diesel and gas-powered heavy equipment.
- Determine the extent of needed repair; inspect used parts to determine the cause of mechanical failure and evaluate whether parts are still useable or need to be replaced
- Overhaul, repair, and adjust engines, standard and automatic transmissions, air and hydraulic brake systems, clutches, differentials, axles and suspension, ignition and electrical systems, computerized and electronic ignition systems, steering and control systems, and generators
- Perform instrumentation repair; repair and replace tracks on bulldozers; grind, seat, and adjust valves; rebuild hydraulic pumps;
- Repair electronically controlled devices on power shovels and other heavy equipment;
- Adjust and repair grader blades and loader bucket assemblies;
- Use a wide variety of test equipment and shop tools;
- Overhaul exhaust systems;
- Make emergency repairs in the field
- Perform routine maintenance and servicing of equipment and trucks; change and repair tires
- Complete work-orders and timecards daily
- Complete jobs in accordance with the quoted labor hour
- Maintain workshop in a clean, organized, and safe manner
- Properly maintain company tool inventory
- Provide excellent customer service to clients

QUALIFICATIONS
|
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. Typical ways to obtain these knowledge and abilities include the following:
- Education
- Technical or trade school certification in mechanical services or related instruction
- Experience
- One to two years’ experience in the maintenance and servicing of automotive, road construction, or other heavy equipment, including some engine repair work or formal training in engine repair
- Licensure
- Possession of a valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain DBIDS/Rapid Gate base access
- Tools of the Trade
- Incumbents must provide the basic required tools upon employment and any additional required tools within twelve months of employment. The Company will provide basic heavy equipment workshop tools as deemed necessary by management

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- The physical requirements of this position involve very heavy work, which includes exerting more than 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds or more constantly to move objects.
- The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as operating machines where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.
- The worker should be able to hear and distinguish various sounds, such as the voices of co-workers in noisy environments and sounds of operating equipment.
- The ability to distinguish colors, such as color-coded wire and the color of fluids
- The ability to distinguish temperatures of equipment, to avoid burns
- The ability to use impact tools, such as tire guns and sledgehammers, which cause body vibration
- Ability to perform tasks that require manual dexterity, such as welding, assembling small parts, and pouring liquids into receptacles.
