About the Role
Reporting to the General Counsel & Company Secretary, and working as part of a broader Australasian Legal & Compliance Team, the Legal & Compliance Counsel – Operations is responsible for delivering practical, timely legal and compliance support to our logistics and dealer operations division. You will act as a trusted legal advisor, guiding stakeholders through a wide range of commercial contracts, regulatory obligations, compliance requirements, and legal risks. From services and supplier contracts and consumer law queries to privacy, franchising, and property matters, this role offers the opportunity to work across diverse legal areas with autonomy and impact.
You will also take the lead on legal training initiatives and collaborate with internal stakeholders on critical projects, compliance frameworks, and business initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice to our operational business units across a wide range of commercial, logistics, and procurement contracts.
- Draft, review, and negotiate supplier agreements, logistics/trucking contracts, property leases, dealer agreements, and finance-related documentation.
- Guide stakeholders on legal obligations relating to Australian Consumer Law, Privacy, Franchise Law, and Competition Law.
- Support and advise on customer complaints, litigation, and dispute resolution matters.
- Deliver legal training across areas such as ACL, Privacy, and compliance frameworks.
- Manage privacy inquiries and compliance requirements across assigned business units.
- Attend stakeholder sites and provide hands-on legal support where necessary (some interstate travel may apply).
- Work collaboratively with Legal & Compliance Team colleagues on strategic initiatives and additional workstreams to deliver legal and compliance services effectively across all business units.
About You
You are a proactive and collaborative legal professional who thrives on building strong partnerships across the business. You understand how to translate legal complexity into commercial clarity, and you are comfortable managing a varied workload.
You will also bring:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Law and an unrestricted NSW Practising Certificate.
- 8+ years’ post-qualification experience across both private practice and in-house legal environments.
- Expertise in Contract Law, with a proven ability to draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements.
- Demonstrated experience in logistics, procurement, or government tendering is beneficial.
- Solid knowledge and practical experience across Franchise Law, Competition Law, Australian Consumer Law, Privacy Law, and Consumer Finance.
- Strong stakeholder engagement with the ability to build relationships and communicate legal advice to non-legal audiences.
- Prior experience within the automotive industry will be highly regarded.
